Temporary Storage of Contaminated Mud
The mud flowing back under high pressure from the drill hole is received in the trip tank. This mud is contaminated with seawater, stones, sand, and cuttings. It may also contain oil and gas residue.
VEGAPULS 66 for Level Measurement
The trip tank is usually a tall narrow tank that is designed to fill very quickly in the event of a kick or blowout. The level measurement is used as a first indicator that the
blowout is happening. The narrow transmission beam of the VEGAPULS 66 makes it the ideal choice for measuring in this vessel. The measurement is not affected by the
composition of the used mud. Oil residue on the surface of the mud or natural gas in the atmosphere above the mud does not impair the measurement. The VEGAPULS 66
delivers accurate measuring results even under high pressures and temperatures.
