From Plastic Granules to Fertilizers
A large number of finished products in the chemical industry are manufactured and brought to market in the form of powders, granules or pellets. Plastic granules and powders are often stored in tall, slender silos and filled pneumatically. Fertilizers are transported via conveyor belt to large bunkers or stockpiles for storage until further transport.
VEGAPULS 68 - Level Measurement with Pneumatic Filling
Radar signals are dampened very little by airborne dust particles. For this reason, the radar measuring principle is the ideal choice for measurement in conjunction with pneumatic filling. The high sensitivity of VEGAPULS 68 delivers reliable measurement results even with the widely varying surface geometry of the heaped material.
Measurement of Fertilizers with the VEGASON 65
In conjunction with the storage of fertilizers and other abrasive products, non-contact level measurement has several advantages. The ultrasonic sensors of the VEGASON 64 - 66 series are particularly suitable for solids because of their high-performance transducers and signal processing that is specially optimized for solids. A swiveling holder in the mounting flange enables optimum alignment of the transducer to the solid product.
VEGAFLEX 62 for Silos with Plastic Granules
In the manufacture of polymers, plastics are processed in an extruder and cut into granules. After being dried, the granules are pneumatically blasted into tall silos up to 30 m (98.4 ft) high. Due to the varying moisture content of the product, the electrical properties such as the dielectric constant fluctuate, making level measurement with capacitive instruments undependable. This is where the advantages of the guided microwave technique come into play, because the measurement is completely unaffected by changes in product characteristics. The sensor always provides an accurate level measurement regardless of filling method, vessel shape, heap surface angle and product characteristics.
Level Detection with the VEGAVIB 61
Beside capacitive sensors, vibrating level switches are being used more and more in recent years for level detection of solids. Even with solid densities of only 20 g/l or continuously changing process materials, the VEGAVIB 61 always delivers accurate results. The vibrating rod principle ensures high measurement reliability, as no solid material can get wedged in and cause faulty switching. Cable and rod models are available in different lengths, which allows the instruments to be adapted to any switching point.
